Lichtvormgevers received the honorable assignment to supervise as light director the light in the Station area of Almere in close collaboration with the municipality. This also applies to the Stadhuis Boulevard and the Spoorbaanpad.
Many parties in the area work on public and private lighting plans. As a light director, Lichtvormgever ensures that the end result is integral and coherent, creating a strong evening and night view. In addition, Lichtvormgevers develops all lighting designs for public spaces.
Supervision
Light is integrated into elements in the designs of landscape architect Sant en Co from The Hague (Station Area) and LoLa Landscape Architecture (Stadhuis Promenade). Sant en Co and art collective Mothership, known for art in the Markthal of Rotterdam, are also thinking about light art in public spaces and the station hall. ProRail realizes light in the station hall and entrepreneurs provide light in the street through their shop windows and by lighting on the wall. Lichtvormgevers creates the lighting design for public spaces.
As a light director, Lichtvormgevers ensures coordination between all light plans, creating an integral and coherent evening and night view.
Lighting design
Lichtvormgevers studied the history and future plans of the city, as well as the designs of the landscape architects. The young city that was built on the submerged seabed in the 70s of the last century is still one of the fastest growing cities in the Netherlands and now has 200,000 inhabitants. The public space is therefore transformed. Bringing nature into the city is one of the most important objectives to keep the city future-proof. Lichtvormgevers has developed a lighting design based on all these aspects. The focus is on the users and future infrastructure and architecture are also taken into account. The lighting concept is based on the application of precisely directed light in the environment, which brings the light exactly where it is intended. User groups are provided with the light they need without unintentionally hindering other groups of users. For example, there are zones on the Mandelaplein where it is deliberately kept dark, so that nature can relax after sunset. Different shades of white, light beams and light intensities ensure a meticulously balanced light image that is tailored to the needs of the moment.
Light instruments
When designing the light instruments, we were inspired by the existing architecture from the 70s of the last century and aligned this with the current spirit of the times. The lighting system consists of high-quality LEDs, optics and a control system. In this way the light is accurately controlled in the public space and the light pollution, energy consumption and maintenance are minimal. Surveillance cameras and other sensors are integrated into the lighting system where possible. Future techniques such as 5G are also taken into account.
